0 Miles- Filey Beach
Filey is home to 5 glorious miles of sandy beach stretching along the waterfront of the town. At low tide you can access about a quarter mile stretch of the beach. At high tide the waves come all the way into the beach, crashing against the coastal wall, which makes for some great, slightly wet fun with the kids. There are some nice little stalls and cafes along the promenade.

0.5 Miles Glen Gardens
Glen Gardens is an 1830’s gardens and park which was previously built around a private hall which no longer exists. The hall has a cafe, play area and wildlife garden as well as a boating lake, bandstand and wishing well. If you get bored of any of that then there is also a putting green and crazy golf to keep you busy.

0.7 Miles- Filey Dams Nature Reserve
Filey Dams Nature Reserve is the largest remaining freshwater marsh in the area and as a result is a magnet for local wildlife and nature. The site is made up of boardwalks and small hides, ideal for bird watching. The site is almost 6 hectares in total, is known for its distinct flora and fauna and is a great family day out. Unfortunately this one is not for dogs.

3.4 Miles- Scarborough Fair Collection
The Scarborough Fair Collection is vintage collections of cars, steam engines and fairground rides from around the world. The collection started off with a steam engine and a mechanical organ in the 1980’s and has since continued to grow to a vast collection including 15 mechanical organs, an array of fairground rides, most of which still work, as well as an impressive collection of cars and steam engines. There is also a cafe and bar on site. Dogs need to sit this one out.

4.2 MILES- Cayton Bay
Cayton Bay beach sits around 3 miles south of Scarborough and is one of best beaches we have seen on a trip so far. The beach is open, spacious and quiet. Dogs are allowed to roam free and the beach is set in beautiful sheer cliff surroundings. There are World War 2 pill boxes scattered around the cliffs and the beach and there are plenty of areas to go rock-pooling with the kids. A great, free day out. There is a beach shack serving drinks and snacks near the beach and a coastal path heading towards Filey or Scarborough either way.

5.7 Miles- Playdale Farm Park
Playdale Farm Park is a great day out for kids and has lots of things to do including indoor soft play, an adventure trail and a range of farm animals to see and pet. There are games and extra things to do such as frisbee golf! The park is open April to October.

8 Miles- Scarborough
Scarborough is a seaside town split between 2 beaches divided by a headland. On the headland sits Scarborough castle, giving a picturesque landscape and view from the town and the beaches. Scarborough was one of the first traditional seaside resorts and you can still get this feel from it whilst walking along the seafront today. Scarborough is moving forwards in order to remain at the forefront of British seaside destinations and that means you get to see history and culture mixed with development and innovation. It’s a truly beautiful place with an abundance of things to do, sea and taste.

8.2 Miles Peasholm Park
Peasholm Park is a vibrant park located in the centre of Scarborough. The park sits around a large lake surrounded by walking paths. The park is built around an oriental theme with a large central raised temple, feeding into a picturesque waterfall. There is a cafe in the park as well as lots of seating and if your feeling a bit more active then you can take advantage of the row boats or pedalos.

9.6 Miles-Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary
Scarborough Seal life sanctuary has 12 zones which take you on a journey from the coastline to the depths of the ocean. They have a great variety of amazing sea creatures on site and the experiences range from face to face to rockpooling and meeting the outdoor sea animals such as penguins, seals and otters. It’s open 10am-4pm every day.

10 Miles- Bridlington
Bridlington is a small pre-roman town and harbour with a working sea fishing port known for it’s shellfish. There are plenty of nice clean beaches, independent shops and a huge amount of amazing nature to be seen. Bird watching, boat trips and museum visits are all available in Bridlington. Along the coast, you can visit the beach, tuck into fish and chips, fossil hunt and see the fishing boats operating in the bustling harbour. Lots of variety, colour and culture for all to see.
