Site name: Blackmore Camping and Caravan Club Site

Location:  No2 Hanley Swan, Worcestershire, WR8 0EE

Date Visited: July 2017

Location:

Blackmore Camping and Caravan Club Site is situated in a picturesque location near the Malvern Hills. The site itself is situated about 15 minutes walk away from the local Town of Hanley Swan, a small village set between Malvern and Upton upon Severn. Blackmore shares an entrance with the Caravan and Motorhome Club Malvern Hills Site.

  • 100 Miles of walking trails in nearby Malvern Hills
  • Only 10 Miles from Motorway
  • Easy access to site
  • Local Village and pubs 15 minutes walk
  • Evesham, Worcester and Tewksbury all within 30 minute drive

Pitches:

The pitches at Blackmore were of a fair size, tidy and mostly well placed. 195 pitches make up the site in total.

Plus points

  • Good size
  • Even ground
  • Option of pitches away from kids playground
  • Pitches surrounded by trees on one side of site or clear rows of hard standing on other side

Could be better

  • Rows of pitches on one side of site lacked space between each pitch
  • Grass tent pitches directly behind hard standing van pitches with no separation

Facilities:

The site has 2 toilet blocks, a small shop in reception, a recreation room as well as a generous central kids play area and dog walk facilities. See the overview of each below:

Toilet blocks: There are 2 toilet blocks on site at Blackmore, one adjoining the recreation room and one placed at the opposite side of the site. Both blocks were clean, tidy and well laid out.  Showers were spacious and all toilet blocks had enough showers, toilets  and wash cubicles to cover the number of pitches on site. The toilets were clean every time I visited them which is always a good sign of a clean site.

Shop: Usually the shop is taken for granted on these kind of sites. You’re aware that it sells the basics if you get stuck and that it’s not a 24 our convenience store but having it is still a bonus. The shop on this site was not much different to other small shops built into the reception, with the exception of the fact that it was hardly ever open. The surrounding area doesn’t have a lot of local convenience stores and there is nothing within walking distance so it would be ideal on this site for the shop to be open for more than a few hours each morning.

Kids Park:  The kids park was conveniently situated in the middle of the site with more than enough space for kids to use the park or the surrounding grass. This meant you avoided football games right next to your van.

Dog Walk Good lengthy dog walk between the trees with lots of dog waste bins. Not very well signposted on one side of park so unless you stumble across it you may not find it.

Recreation room: Recreation room was made up of a large hall with tables and chairs as well as a kitchen in a building attached to one toilet block. It was great to have a space to go to, possibly even better for campers as opposed to caravans. The only annoying thing was it it was closed for meetings for almost a whole day while we were there and this meeting consisted of 6 people sat around 1 of about 10 tables. A huge waste of space!

Extras: Chargeable Wifi

Things to do

Within a 30 minute drive you can visit Evesham, Worcester or Tewksbury but the main activities that should be of interest to you here are the great walking trails surrounding the Malvern hills including peaks such as Worcester and Herefordshire Beacon. Some other places to visit include Lovells Vineyard, Croome Park, Priory park, Great Malvern, Eastnor Castle, Malvern museum of local history and Malvern Geo centre. Check out info on 10 things to do in 10 miles of Malvern Hills.

Dog Friendly :

The site is dog friendly and allows dogs on all pitches. There is a substantial dog walk area where you can let them off the lead to go to toilet and it has lots of waste bins around all entrances to it.

Verdict

If you’re looking to visit the beautiful Malvern Hills than this is a great base to do it from. Worth a visit.

Positives: Great location, good dog walk and play area,  decent sized pitches.

Needs Work: Shop opening times, tent proximity to caravans, use of recreational space.
