Summary

9.1 Review Score If you’re looking to visit the beautiful Malvern Hills than this is an ideal base to do that from. Some people avoid Caravan and Motorhome Club sites as they feel they are a bit too regimented but this site has a different feel. It has the cleanliness and facilities of a C and M site but feels more relaxed and I imagine it attracts a younger audience and more children. A good place if you want a bit more of a flexible site to stay on.

Site Name: Malvern hills Caravan and motorhome club site

Location: Hanley Swan, Worcestershire, WR8 0EE

Date Visited: August 2017

LOCATION:

Malvern Hills Caravan and Motorhome Club Site is situated in a picturesque location with views of the Malvern Hills. The site itself is situated directly next to Blackmore Camping and Caravan club site and is about 15 minutes walk away from the local Town of Hanley Swan, a small village set between Malvern and Upton upon Severn.
  • 100 Miles of walking trails in nearby Malvern Hills
  • Only 10 Miles from Motorway
  • Easy access to site
  • Local Village and pubs 15 minutes walk
  • Evesham, Worcester and Tewksbury all within 30 minute drive

PITCHES:

Malvern Hills is large site with over 200 pitches. This gives it a bit of a different feel to other C and M sites. The pitches vary largely in setup and location with a mixture between smaller and larger hardstanding pitches as well as grass pitches which are more often located in between rows of hardstanding pitches.

PLUS POINTS

  • Good size, even slimmer hardstanding pitches are deeper than usual
  • Even ground
  • Option of pitches away from kids playground
  • Lots of variety due to size of park

COULD BE BETTER

  • Some grass pitches not clearly marked out
  • Grass pitches seem oddly place between hardstanding, giving little privacy
  • Hardstanding pitches not as tidy as most at C and M club sites.

FACILITIES:

The site has 2 toilet blocks, a small shop in reception, a kids play area and dog walk facilities. See the overview of each below:

Toilet blocks: There are 2 toilet blocks on site at Malvern Hills and as usual for C and M club sites they are clean and well laid out. The blocks here were particularly impressive, slightly smelly but that’s more down to who had been in before me than the club! There were a couple of showers that even had a power shower fitted which made for an awesome shower. I guess the standard shower heads are built to save water, but my only gripe with these is that you can’t move them to a different angle, which means some people have a better shower than others depending on your height.

Service points: The site has 4 service points. Whilst this is possibly not a small number for the size of the site, the location of them means that some pitches on the outskirts have a fair way to walk to get water and dispose of waste. Not far enough to complain, but far enough not to look forward to your daily jobs.

Shop: like most reception shops, you can buy your essentials here and it’s open to match reception times so from 9-5/6 depending on season. There is also a small library and information room.

Kids park: The kids parks at C and M sites are usually fairly small, centrally located and fenced off but the park here is opened out, slightly larger than normal and surrounded by grass which means the kids tend to congregate here rather than around Caravans. This is great for pitches further away from the park, maybe not for those right next to it as some are very close and it is noisy, but I imagine people with kids would choose these pitches anyway.

Dog Walk:  There is a decent dog walk on site here situated at the back end of the park in a small wooded area. There are plenty of bins, the walk is secure to let your dog off and there is plenty of room for a big enough run for them. There never seems to be signposting to dog walks but it is shown on the map given to you at check in. If you have a dog you should pitch near to this due to the size of the site.

Extras: The site leaflet says chargeable wifi is available, however on the pitches we were on by the dog walk, we could neither get wifi, cell reception, or a great TV reception. The site does have a small area with large outdoor kids games as well as the play park and also does Caravan storage.

THINGS TO DO

Within a 30 minute drive you can visit Evesham, Worcester or Tewksbury but the main activities that should be of interest to you here are the great walking trails surrounding the Malvern hills including peaks such as Worcester and Herefordshire Beacon. Some other places to visit include Lovells Vineyard, Croome Park, Priory park, Great Malvern, Eastnor Castle, Malvern museum of local history and Malvern Geo centre. Check out info on 10 things to do in 10 miles of Malvern Hills.

DOG FRIENDLY :

The site is dog friendly and allows dogs on all pitches. There is a fair sized, wooded dog walk area where you can let them off the lead to go to toilet and it has lots of waste bins around all entrances to it.

VERDICT

If you’re looking to visit the beautiful Malvern Hills than this is an ideal base to do that from. Some people avoid Caravan and Motorhome Club sites as they feel they are a bit too regimented but this site has a different feel. Positives: Great location, good dog walk and play area,  decent sized pitches.

Needs work: Pitches slightly rough around the edges, improved wifi and TV points would be good, pitch layouts for grass might not appeal to all.
